Haptiker support
Setup, licenses and troubleshooting for Haptiker 1.0. If something here doesn't help, email hello@haptiker.app.
Install Haptiker
- Download the DMG, open it and drag Haptiker to your Applications folder.
- Open Haptiker. It lives in the menu bar, so it has no Dock icon.
- When macOS asks, allow Accessibility access in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Accessibility, and switch Haptiker on.
- Slide one finger along the right edge of your trackpad to change the volume.
Haptiker needs macOS 12 or later, an Apple Silicon or Intel Mac, and a built-in Force Touch trackpad or a Magic Trackpad.
Why Accessibility access is needed
macOS only lets an app read trackpad touches after you allow it under Accessibility. Haptiker uses this to detect edge gestures. Touches are processed in memory on your Mac and are never stored or sent. See the privacy policy for details.
Activate your license
- Buy Haptiker and copy the license key from your receipt email.
- Open Haptiker from the menu bar and choose Enter License….
- Paste the key and click Activate.
One key activates up to 3 Macs. To move it to a new Mac, open Settings › License on the old one and choose Deactivate this Mac. If a Mac is offline, Haptiker keeps working and checks the key again later.
Troubleshooting
Edge gestures don't do anything
- Open Haptiker's Settings › General and check that Accessibility shows Granted. If it doesn't, switch Haptiker off and on again in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Accessibility.
- Check that gestures aren't paused in the menu bar menu.
- If the menu says the trial has ended, activate a license key to turn gestures back on.
- Start the slide on the very edge with one finger and move along the edge. Slides that start in the middle, and two-finger scrolls, are ignored on purpose.
- Use Show edge zones in the menu bar menu to see exactly where the zones are.
An external monitor's brightness doesn't change
- External monitor brightness works on Apple Silicon Macs only.
- Settings › General › External displays shows how many connected displays answer over DDC/CI. If it says None detected, check that DDC/CI is turned on in the monitor's own menu, and try a direct cable instead of an adapter or dock.
- Some monitors, adapters and docks don't support brightness control. Read more in the external monitor guide.
The keyboard backlight edge is missing
The top-edge slider only appears on Macs with a backlit keyboard, and can be switched off in Settings › General.
Gestures trigger by accident
In Settings › Edge Zones, make the edges narrower, set Edge sensitivity to Low, or turn on Bottom quarter only.
Updates
Haptiker checks for updates automatically. To check now, choose Check for Updates… in the menu bar menu. See the changelog for what changed.
Uninstall
Quit Haptiker, move it from Applications to the Trash, and remove the "Haptiker" items from Keychain Access. Deactivate your license first if you want to use it on another Mac.
